PacemCAT Researchers Visit AMEN New Technologies to Advance Green Hydrogen Catalysts

Athens, Greece — November–December 2025. AMEN New Technologies I.K.E. hosted three international researchers— József Sándor Pap , Tímea Benkó , and Irfan Khan —as part of the EU-funded HORIZON-MSCA PacemCAT  project (Grant No. 101183082). Their secondments strengthened scientific collaboration between AMEN, the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research, and partner institutions across Europe, supporting the development of next-generation catalysts for solar hydrogen production. During his stay, Dr. József S. Pap  advanced the selection and design of mixed-metal oxide catalysts, co-authored a joint scientific manuscript with AMEN researchers, and delivered a seminar on innovative strategies for (photo)electrocatalytic surface activation. Tímea Benkó  received specialized training in microwave-assisted synthesis and ball-milling techniques, gaining hands-on experience with nanostructured semiconductors, high-entropy oxides, and emerging 2D layered materials. Her work deepened the scientific exchange between AMEN and the HUN-REN Centre. Irfan Khan  contributed to the characterization of hybrid semiconductor–molecular catalyst systems, performing X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic, and microscopy studies, while also learning advanced ball-milling protocols. His research supported the assessment of catalytic efficiency and electrode surface properties. These visits highlight PacemCAT’s mission to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate breakthroughs in renewable hydrogen technologies. Thessaloniki, Greece — 4 November 2025 AMEN New Technologies announces the successful participation of its R&D team represented by Dr. Dimitrios Niarchos , Dr. Dimitrios Anyfantis , and Mrs. Evangelia Dimeli  in the 9th Triannual Meeting of the Hellenic Metallurgical Society , held in Thessaloniki on 3–4 November 2025 . The conference gathered leading researchers and industry stakeholders to discuss advances in metallurgy and strategic materials. AMEN delivered three presentations showcasing recent progress in sustainable permanent magnet technologies : Dr. D. Niarchos  presented the role of powder metallurgy  as a strategic platform for permanent magnet production, highlighting its ability to control microstructure, enhance coercivity, and reduce critical material usage while supporting efficient and scalable manufacturing.  Dr. D. Anyfantis  presented research on rare-earth-free Fe₂P-based alloys , demonstrating how Co and Si substitutions  improve magnetic properties and stability, positioning these materials as promising candidates for future permanent magnet applications. Mrs. E. Dimeli  presented AMEN’s advancements in axially compressed bonded magnets  based on (NdPr)-(LaCe)FeB High Entropy Intermetallic Compounds , achieving up to 80% substitution of Nd/Pr with La/Ce  while maintaining competitive magnetic performance and enabling cost-effective fabrication. All presentations were well received , generating strong interest in AMEN’s approach to reducing reliance on critical raw materials , enhancing European supply-chain resilience , and supporting energy-efficient technologies  such as electric mobility and renewable power systems. AMEN presents the development and fabrication of a novel series of permanent magnets

Florence, Italy — 30 October 2025 AMEN New Technologies proudly announces the participation members of its R&D team, represented by Dr. Dimitrios Niarchos  (R&D Director) and Mrs. Evangelia Dimeli  (Research Associate), in the 18th Progress Meeting of the BEETHOVEN Project , held in Florence, Italy, on 29–30 October 2025 . The meeting brought together more than 30 leading researchers, industry partners, and innovation stakeholders  from across Europe to review ongoing scientific and technological results in the field of next-generation permanent magnets and sustainable materials. During the meeting, the AMEN team presented significant advances in the development of axially compressed permanent magnets  based on High Entropy Intermetallic Compounds (HEICs)  derived from (NdPr)-(LaCe)FeB alloy systems . These materials are strategically important, as they aim to reduce dependence on critical and high-cost rare-earth elements , while maintaining high magnetic performance. A major highlight of AMEN’s contribution was the demonstration of fully processed, application-relevant magnet samples , with dimensions of: 20 × 20 × 20 mm³ 20 × 40 × 20 mm³ These magnets were successfully fabricated with up to 80% substitution of the expensive heavy rare-earth components (Nd, Pr)  by more abundant and lower-cost elements (La, Ce) — without compromising magnetic performance . This marks a breakthrough toward economically viable and resource-resilient magnet manufacturing , fully aligned with the BEETHOVEN project’s objectives and the broader strategic priorities of the European Union for sustainable advanced materials and clean-energy technologies. The results presented by AMEN demonstrate: Successful alloy composition optimization using High Entropy Intermetallic design principles. Controlled microstructure engineering enabling high coercivity and remanence  despite reduced Nd/Pr content. Reliable fabrication of bulk-sized permanent magnets suitable for industrial demonstration and scale-up . These achievements reinforce AMEN New Technologies’ role as a key industrial innovator within the BEETHOVEN consortium and contribute to Europe’s effort to secure strategic autonomy in advanced magnetics and the electrification supply chain . The Hellenic Physical Society (HPS), one of Greece’s oldest scientific organizations dedicated to the advancement of physics research and education, officially announced the results on its website: www.eef.gr . Dr. Niarchos’ election reflects his longstanding contribution to Materials Science, Magnetism, Nanotechnology, and Research & Innovation Policy  in Greece and internationally. His appointment strengthens the strategic link between high-level research, academic excellence, and industrial technological development  at national and European level. About Dr. Dimitrios Niarchos Dr. Dimitrios Niarchos  is R&D Director of AMEN New Technologies  and Emeritus Researcher  of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) at NCSR “Demokritos” . He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science  from the University of Athens and an MBA in R&D Management  from Loyola University (USA). He has served in major academic and national leadership roles, including: Director of the Institute of Materials Science  at NCSR “Demokritos” (1994–1999) Vice President  of NCSR “Demokritos” (1996–1999) President and Director General  of NCSR “Demokritos” (2005–2010) Dr. Niarchos has authored over 500 scientific publications , with >10500 citations  (h-index 48 and holds 7 patents . He has coordinated more than 35 national and European research projects , trained 23 PhD researchers , and served as advisor to the European Commission, NATO, and the Greek State  on research and innovation policy. Athens, Greece 11 September 2025 AMEN was honored to host Professor George Hadjipanayis, a world-leading authority in magnetic materials and one of the co-inventors of the NdFeB permanent magnet in 1983–1984 , for in-depth discussions on advancing permanent magnet technologies. The meeting focused on the next challenges in magnet design , including: Achieving enhanced coercivity via nanostructuring of Fe₂₋ₓCoₓP₁₋ᵧSiᵧ-type magnets. Increasing the energy product of axially compressed bonded magnets based on AMEN’s high-entropy doped (Nd-Pr)-(La-Ce)FeB compounds . Outlining requirements for the next generation of magnetic alloys , targeting permanent magnets with energy products above 520 kJ/m³ , well beyond the performance of current Nd-Dy-Fe-B magnets. Prof. Hadjipanayis expressed strong enthusiasm for AMEN’s achievements and noted the state-of-the-art experimental infrastructure now in place. Over the past year, AMEN has acquired advanced equipment including a Rigaku MiniFlex XRD system , an automatic hysteriograph magnetometer , a 1400 °C box furnace, a turbopump vacuum system , SPEX8000 high-energy ball milling , and a complete electrical resistivity system . Combined with established arc-melting and powder sintering facilities , these resources enable AMEN to cover the entire innovation chain: from conceptual design and alloy fabrication to structural/magnetic characterization and prototype device development. To commemorate Prof. Hadjipanayis’s visit and highlight AMEN’s commitment to social governance and environmental stewardship , the company planted young trees on the land surrounding its headquarters — a symbolic act reinforcing AMEN’s responsibility toward the community and the environment. The training provided us with a deep dive into the latest advancements in XRD technology, covering both theoretical principles and hands-on sessions with the latest MiniFlex instruments.The specialized training program focused on the operation, maintenance, and advanced applications of the MiniFlex benchtop X-ray diffraction (XRD) system, a key technology for materials characterization and quality control. Rigaku’s expert instructors shared valuable knowledge into optimizing measurement techniques, data interpretation, and troubleshooting, helping ensure we can maximize the accuracy and efficiency of our analyses.
